I’ve often written about why cardio is NOT the most effective fat loss and body sculpting tool. So what is then?
The answer is to train less but with way more intensity. This means giving it 100% using a combination of methods.
Method 1 – Compound exercises
⚬ These work multiple muscles at the same time
⚬ Giving you a full body workout
⚬ They also improve coordination, balance and control over your body
⚬ Example – squat with overhead press holding weights
Method 2 – Progressive overload
⚬ This means pushing muscles beyond adaptation each and every time you train by…
⚬ increasing the weight per exercise
⚬ increasing reps per set
⚬ decreasing rest between sets (like from 40 secs to 20 secs)
Method 3 – Combine weight training with cardio in intervals (HIIT)
⚬ This is the best of both worlds, cardio for heart health, weights for strength
⚬ Make sure the cardio is done in super intense short bursts
⚬ Make sure the weights you lift are heavy enough to challenge you
⚬ This burns up to 10 x more fat during and after workout and
⚬ Works the full body in less time
Method 4 – Find something you love
⚬ Find a physical hobby that burns calories and you won’t even feel like you’re working out
⚬ Better if its something outdoors in nature
⚬ Even better if you can do it in a group and get that daily dose of social interaction
⚬ Triple better if there is some adrenaline involved to really get the heart pumping
Have you tried any of these in a workout? What’s your favorite calorie-burning activity?
