Your spine has been pulled out of alignment, your abdominal muscles have separated, your pelvic floor has been under immense pressure and even the quality of your breathing has been affected.
For these reasons, it’s ill-advised to jump right back into regular fitness postpartum. It’s also not good to avoid exercise altogether. The right way to re-build your body is to start with your core. Re-training all 4 primary muscles to engage simultaneously and involuntarily is the best defense you have against causing further damage. When your core is fully functional, your abs will reconnect (say good-bye to the mummy tummy), your posture will improve, your pain, leaking and discomfort will disappear and you will be ready to get back to the active lifestyle you once enjoyed.
